Our last blog post explained our expanded youth cycling programs for the summer of 2024. Now, meet the Devo program coaches. Coach Sydney JuliusHi, my name is Sydney Julius, I grew up in the Mad River Valley, I attended Green Mountain Valley School for my high school education, and I am currently a Junior at the University of Vermont studying Nutrition and Food Sciences. I am part of the UVM cycling team and will be the Women’s coordinator for the 2024-2025 season. I have been riding mountain bikes since I was little, starting with the Little Bellas program in Williston when I was 9. I was a mountain bike mentor for Little Bellas and I have been racing downhill and enduro for 3 years now. I look forward to joining the Mad River Riders team and meeting all the rippers this summer! Coach Hayden EllmsHayden grew up in central Vermont riding bikes, skiing and doing everything possible to get outside. At 9 years old he attended Wheels Around Waterbury for the first time and would return every summer for the next 15 years. Every summer gaining more responsibility and knowledge of how to lead groups of young riders safely on busy, technical trails. In 2020, Hayden helped get Time To Ride, a bike camp and afterschool program in Montpelier, get started and has been working there every spring and fall for the last 4 years. Off the bike, Hayden works at the valley's newest restaurant and hotel, Madbush Falls, as the Marketing and Operations Assistant.
