We are happy to announce that the Mad River Riders are joining forces with our friends at the Mad River Path! Working as a single, unified trail recreation organization will enable us to better achieve our vision of connecting the Mad River Valley with a world-class trail network for human-powered recreation.
After collaborating for years, most recently on the Mad River Triathlon and summer camps, the Riders and the Path started discussing a deeper relationship last September. A VT Community Foundation grant paid for an organizational consultant and attorney to facilitate the discussion. Members of the two boards of directors held meetings several times during the winter. We also met with leaders from neighboring trail networks who had similarly broadened their organizations, including Stowe Trails Partnership, Kingdom Trails, Slate Valley Trails and the Ridgeline Collective. VMBA also weighed in with valuable advice. The advantages of merging became more and more clear.
So in early February the Riders board of directors unanimously voted to approve the merger plan! We still have lots of details to work out together. But as the 2026 season progresses, the Riders and the Path will expand our collaboration beyond the usual Mad River Triathlon and summer camps, to trail maintenance and planning. And hopefully by the end of the year we will be able to formalize the combined organization. We encourage members and the community to reach out with any questions or concerns.
