Mad River Rippers Summer Camp Registration is Open!

Scroll down to the Summer Camp section for more details and registration link. We'll open registration for the Rippers weekly rides this spring.

Have a kid doing Rippers Tuesday rides? We'd love to have you join us as a ride volunteer for one or more rides. Please learn more and sign up here.

Program Overview

The Mad River Riders will be running both our Mad River Rippers weekly ride series as well as our Rippers Summer Camp during the summer 2026 season. Participants or their parents must have active VMBA memberships to participate. We rely on membership to support our free-to-access trail network and the Rippers program. Click here to join or renew. If this presents a financial challenge, just contact us - we’re here to help!

Mad River Rippers Summer Camp
The Rippers Summer Camp is offered by the Mad River Riders in the MRV in partnership with Stark Mountain Bike Works, Mad Bush Falls, and the Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce. During each one week session, June 29th - July 3, or August 17th - 21st, riders will learn mountain bike skills, safety, and most importantly, have a ton of fun! Our coaches, Hayden Ellms and Sydney Julius, have years of experience teaching young shredders how to mountain bike in a fun and safe environment. They’ll take a progression oriented approach. Monday will start out mellow with the option to progress to gnarlier features as the week goes on.

When campers aren’t riding the trails, there will still be plenty of fun to be had. Swimming, creemees, and parking lot bike games are always a hit and a great way to build skills. Off-bike time is also when campers make friends and build a community of outdoor lovers they will have for the rest of their lives.

Campers must be between the ages of 8 and 12 years old, with the ability to ride a mountain bike, on flat land and uphill, for at least 45 minutes to an hour. Riders must be comfortable riding single track trails with varied terrain including rocks, roots, mud and berms. They must be able to turn, brake and stop safely. All bikes used at camp must have gears, hand brakes (rim or disc) and pedals (no strider/kick bikes). Other bikes are not appropriate for camp sessions.

Camp costs $400 per session. Registration is open here, until May 1st. Email Kathy for more information.

Mad River Rippers
In its 13th season, the Mad River Rippers introduces the joys of mountain biking to kids in the Valley aged two and up. Free to all, Rippers is all about igniting a passion for biking while having fun outdoors and making friends. During weekly rides on Tuesday evenings from June 16th through August 25th, kids develop bike handling skills, get fit and learn how to overcome challenges. Riders are placed into small groups of similarly skilled riders based on age, experience, and riding style:
  • Striders for beginners aged two to four
  • Pedalers for beginners aged four to seven
  • Cruisers for beginners and intermediate riders aged seven to ten
  • Flyers for beginners through intermediate and advanced riders aged eleven to thirteen
  • Ride Guides is a group for teenagers with intermediate or advanced skills who are interested in helping guide groups of younger kids along with an adult ride leader. Ride Guides have the option of taking a certification course in Wilderness First Aid and CPR for free in exchange for helping guide younger groups approximately twice a month.
Don't worry if your child doesn't fit neatly into one of the groups described below. Sign them up based on age. Communication with parents and guardians during the registration process is important to help us assign riders to the appropriate groups.

Rides take place Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to about 7:00 pm at a variety of locations throughout the Mad River Riders trail network, frequently Blueberry Lake and Moretown Elementary School. We encourage parents to participate and ride with their children; however, we understand that is not always possible. Register will open in the Spring.
