We’re happy to announce that we’re expanding our youth cycling program this summer. Alongside the beloved Mad River Rippers, we're introducing a new weekly Devo program as well as week-long mountain biking camp sessions. For anyone not already familiar with it, the Mad River Rippers started 11 years ago with a mission to introduce the joys of mountain biking to kids in the valley aged two and up. Free to all, Rippers is all about igniting a passion for biking while having fun outdoors and making friends. During weekly rides on Tuesday evenings, kids develop bike handling skills, get fit and learn how to overcome challenges. Click here to learn more and register. For kids in 3rd to 6th grade who catch the mountain biking bug as Rippers, the new Devo program aims to nurture their riding prowess with the guidance of dedicated coaches. Spanning twelve weeks starting in June, this team-based program is perfect for riders eager to commit to a summer filled with adventure. Focusing on cross country and enduro skills, our Tuesday evening sessions will prepare participants for the Catamount Trail Wednesday race league and ultimately the fall Vermont Youth Cycling League. Participants should be comfortable with two-hour rides climbing and descending the diverse trails of Camels Hump State Forest and Swell Hill. The $275 cost for the summer includes swag like a tee shirt and name plate. Scholarships are available! Click here to learn more and register. Our new, week long Rippers mountain biking camp sessions will take place the weeks of June 17th - 21st and Aug 19-23, from 9am to 3pm. Campers, aged 8 to 12, can expect a mix of on and off bike skills and games. Rides will take place at a variety of locations throughout the valley and will vary in length and challenge according to ability. The cost is $375 per week. Click here to learn more and register. This season brings a new requirement for all three programs: participants must have an active VMBA membership with our chapter. We rely on membership to support our free-to-access trail network and Rippers program. Click here to renew or join. Should this be a concern financially, please reach out — we're here to help. We're coordinating with Warren School's bike swap for those needing a bike or wishing to donate, and we have a few killer rides available thanks to our sponsor Prevalo. The success of Rippers depends on community involvement. We're calling for volunteers, as ride leads or ambassadors, to have fun in the woods with us while giving back to our community. If you're interested in helping out, please email us or contact us. We’re very excited about growing our youth programs. As always, we couldn’t do it without our members, sponsors, landowners and the rest of the Mad River community. Thank you for the continued support. See you on the trails!
